On the morning of Saturday, Sept. 28th, the Fayetteville Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion Post 42 took up donations for the flood victims in Waverly, TN. The VFW got approval from the Fayetteville Police Department to stand at the intersections by Stonebridge and by Pendergrass Supply & Rental between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. According to Jack Buck, the Fayetteville VFW commander, “We had Tommy Holcomb advertise on the radio that we were taking donations. Once people heard it on the radio and saw our Waverly Relief Fund signs, we had a lot of people stop by and donate money. We want to say a big thank you to the radio station!” Buck said that at one point there was even a couple from Waverly that stopped by, who mentioned that you could not believe how bad it was out there and thanked everyone for raising donations and helping out. Buck said that in 3 hours they raised a total of $5,955 in donations for Waverly, TN. Buck also wanted to thank the people of Lincoln County for all of their donations, this would not be possible without your help.
The money raised on Saturday will be sent to the VFW post in Dickson, TN, which is the closest VFW to Waverly. Once the Dickson VFW has the money, they will decide the best way to distribute the funds to flood victims in Waverly. If anyone still wishes to donate, you can drive by the VFW and slip your donation into the locked mailbox.
