In the beginning of May, Merrill Meadows was hired to be the new director of the Fayetteville Lincoln County Senior Center. Meadows graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Parks Recreation and Tourism. Prior to her new position as director of the senior center, Meadows worked in Parks and Recreation in Tullahoma, Tennessee and as a Parks and Recreation Manager for the Parks System in Pima County, Arizona for 7 years. Meadows plans to make the senior center a hub for social, wellness, and learning activities in the future. In the future, she plans to get additional laptops and soundbars for the center. She hopes that if the center has to close down again or if seniors are sick and shut in, they can still participate through virtual bingo. She also plans to get a Facebook page up and running for the senior center and to teach the seniors how to be more savvy with technology through computer classes. Meadows has already begun planning two dances for later this month, monthly blood pressure checks, a fall pecan sale, and a fall luncheon. In the future, she plans to have a variety of activities for the seniors as time permits and the center can find volunteers.
