I have recently learned that this organization is very involved and important to the Huntsville community. This organization provides free meals and shelter, recovery services, and support to the homeless and to the hurting men, women, and children of the community. This nonprofit organization works to help change lives through community outreach and offers many volunteer services. Despite the good this organization does, there are still many who do not know about the Downtown Rescue Mission and what their purpose is. I believe that, with the right advertisement, the Downtown Rescue Mission could be recognized very easily throughout the entirety of the community and surrounding areas.

With the help of my media diary, it has been shown that radio is the most used type of media, while television comes in a close second. The Downtown Rescue Mission gives back to the Huntsville community by serving the homeless and hurting. This nonprofit organization believes that through compassionate care and ministering, it can bring people under the power of the Gospel. This organization takes in donations, such as clothes and books, and sells them to gain money to provide food and shelter to the homeless. Many people pass by the Downtown Rescue Mission everyday and never take notice what it is or its purpose. Since everyone listens to the radio at least once a day, whether it is in the car on the way to work or school or while doing housework, the Downtown Rescue Mission could get their message across through advertisements in local radio stations. With the help of local radio stations, more people can be reached and informed about the nonprofit’s mission, which could also bring in more donations allowing the organization to help more people.

Another way for this organization to get their message across to the public is through commercials on local television stations. Like the radio, everyone watches television at least once a day. Similar to the radio advertisements, the commercials on local television stations would allow for a larger public to be reached and could increase the amount of donations the nonprofit receives. While the two forms of media are very similar, I believe that advertisements on the radio would be a cheaper option than commercials on television.

In conclusion, I feel that this organization should definitely choose to use media to broaden their public. This organization is a nonprofit that uses the donations it receives to help the homeless of the community and those that are hurting or going through a rough time by providing food and shelter. By using media, this organization can inform the public on what their mission is, and attract more volunteers or donations to help in their mission.
