EH 211: Poem #1 "Things We Leave Behind"

Teddy Bears, Roses, and Candies galore Rose petals and paper hearts scattered on the floor Cookies and Cakes everywhere Love blooming in the air She passes around her little cards Stamped with little pink hearts Waiting to see what she would receive Hoping it wasn’t yet time for Cupid to leave

Eggs with polka dots and Eggs with stripes

Eggs filled with jelly beans and colorful delights Some hidden, some in plain sight

Some down low and some up high

A fun game of hide and seek

With each egg being unique

She hunts them all down

Looking for the Easter Bunny hopping around

Growing big and strong Her baby teeth had to move along One by one they all fell out Replaced by more teeth, that were big and stout She placed her teeth under her pillow Waiting for the Tooth Fairy to fly through the window

Leaving glitter and fairy dust in her wake Gone before she is awake

Bad dreams versus Good dreams

Nothing is as it seems

Nightmares haunt us all

Until the Sandman puts up a wall

Guarding her from the dark

She dreams of little puppies and playing in the park

The sun shining in the sky

Pieces of his magic dust in her eyes

Cold air nipping at her nose Ice and snow sticking to her clothes

Once more, Winter is here And with it, Jack Frost shall appear

Snow falling on the ground Blankets of white all around Her laughter can be heard everywhere

As her snowballs fly through the air

Red and Green everywhere

With Christmas cheer in the air

Christmas trees and flashing lights

A red sleigh with reindeers taking flight

Filled with sugar and spice

She’s split between naughty or nice

Hoping there’s no coal in her stocking this year

She closes her eyes and waits for Santa to appear
